When did the music and entertainment industry decide dissin' is the new best way to sell music?

When did the music and entertainment industry decide dissin' is the new best way to sell music?

When did rappers decide dissin' another rapper gives them claim to fame? What drives all this "you have to disrespect to GET respect" mentality in what is already a rather poor excuse for music in not all, but still many cases? I get the sense that all of this stupid nonsense was born in the streets, ghettos and slums where those with little or no talent are encouraged to behave this way by a fan base with even LESS intellect. Let's face it... it doesn't take much to entertain ignorance now does it? It's gotten so bad that the SINGERS have gotten into the act. I have always held singers and bands to a much higher standard, but a few of them have decided to use street method of selling music by dissin' other music acts. It seems that the same people who support and encourage all this bullshit are the same type of people who love World Star Hip-Hop, XXL and any Wendy Williams "hot topics" segment that contains mention of some beef. As a matter of fact... it looks like actors and politicians are hooked on firing shots at each other these days as well. It's crazy as hell out here now! SMDH What the hell ever happened to relying on true singing or rap talent, good solid production, promotion bucks and airplay to sell music. Screw all this damn nonsense! I feel like there's enough money out here for all of these "recording artists" (and I use the term loosely in some cases) without all the ignorance and stupidity that comes with dissin'! Just make good music... if you can!
